Our Campus

God’s Provision

In 2017, Lighthouse inaugurated its learning campus and thanked God for its provision. Though the secondary school had been holding classes here since 2016, it was the first year that the entire school, pre-primary through secondary learners, joined together.

11 arpents of land

The school acquired the 11 arpents of land in December 2013 and immediately took to planning an innovative campus that would be built out in stages in step with the school’s growth and, of course, availability of financing (a mix of loan and donations).

Built with Purpose

The campus hosts distinctive key features to enrich our students’ daily learning experience and development:
  • One spacious and multi-purpose pavilion which welcomes +800 people daily for assemblies, lunch time and school gatherings and events.
  • Our newly renovated Music Room and Design and Technology Room
  • A welcoming library at the Primary school, where learners consult books, have dedicated reading times and that regularly hosts author visits and groups discussions.
  • Three football pitches, one volleyball and basketball court, one pickleball and racquet ball court, and one netball court.

A Sustainable Model: the FarmLab

Our FarmLab is an innovative integration of aquaponics, hydroponics, and traditional cultivation within the Lighthouse campus. It provides a dedicated space for students from Primary through Secondary to learn about sustainable food production and experiment with different growing methods.

This particular location was chosen because:

  • It is central to the northern region and close to important road links such as the highway intersecting the island, the ring road providing quick access to residential areas on the other side of Port Louis and two other bypass roads.
  • It is uniquely situated adjacent to a forest and a river.
  • It forms part of a diverse residential community, providing easy links to community and giving our students and families an opportunity to make a difference in our immediate area.

Lighthouse aims to be a fulfilling, self-regulating organisation and its campus a place of renewal that will inherently have meaning and purpose, providing children and young people with a stimulating, entrepreneurial, and sustainable environment in which to develop and learn by example. Essentially the learning neighbourhood is conceived of as a village, containing three interlocking functions: educational, social, and promotion of working lives.

We would like to thank Green School of Bali, Indonesia for providing inspiration in its “Three Springs” concept of school architecture and landscaping.
