Independence Day Celebrations
“As one people,
As one nation,
In peace, justice and liberty”
What a joyful and memorable day it was on Wednesday, 11 March, when we celebrated our colourful island’s Independence Day.
We started off the festive morning with a whole school assembly, featuring a solemn raising of the flag, a prayer for the country guided by one of our student leaders, and the reading of the Prime Minister’s message to students by our Principal.
Our Lower Secondary students performed an Sega sequence with music and dancing.
The assembly concluded with a spectacular runway in which our Reception and Primary learners paid homage to the different cultures that make up the Mauritian population. After some culture-centered activities in class, we welcomed a group of professional Sega artists to teach our students how to play the ravanne and dance. Our celebrations wrapped up with delicious gajaks and traditional street food from local vendors.
We are proud of our Lighthouse children for embracing the rich culture of Mauritius, and we wish every citizen to keep living together in peace, justice, and liberty!
